McKinsey & Company: The potential of tech-enabled operations

McKinsey & Company starts 2024 with a reminder - if we need it - that the advances in technology we are seeing now impact every aspect of manufacturing from processes to people. The solutions and applications available to push efficiency and productivity are beyond anything we could have imagined just five years ago; love it or loathe it AI is here to stay and, in its current form, represents probably just the next small step in “human-machine synergy”.

For our community of production quality and compliance experts, what does this mean? Do we see AI, data analytics and robotics as new solutions to test and transform our operations - or have they always been a part of what we do but without the Industry 4.0 terminology and digital enablement?

This short read from McKinsey’s Rehana Khanam and Frédéric Lefort, “The potential of tech-enabled operations”, offers an idea of what the results might be if we embrace this new era of connectivity - Internet of Things, cloud technology, automation - in the manufacturing sector and enable our people to deliver successful digital transformations.
